Tuesday of 10th Week, even numbered year
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing and can only be thrown out to be trampled upon under peoples’ feet.”
Jesus appeals to his disciples- he appeals to them to get out of themselves and turn to others to give savour to a life; it is a call to enlighten humanity.
This invitation from Jesus is so that we live as fully as possible. In fact all that is required of salt is to be nothing else but salt, truly salt. Just like light, it is asked just from it to fulfil its office to brighten up its surroundings.
For each one of us, the stake is that we are just who we are. What is human is to exchange, to receive and to give. Our life finds its true dimension in this double movement.
Humanity is itself when it exchanges gestures of friendship, words of comfort, service through love, the sharing of possessions.
Jesus came so as to enable us to be fully capable of living the gift of oneself. The Eucharist brings to life in us the taste for exchange. Jesus’ teaching to his disciples, after the Beatitudes, goes on. We know that’s alt conserves and gives taste to what it touches, to the food we eat. It is the sign of hospitality. In many cultures throughout the globe we find again this symbol of the sharing of bread and salt.
“You are the light of the world. A city built on top of a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub. They put it on a lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house,” says Jesus again.
It is good to take time to receive what is given to us, to become aware of it, to taste it, value it, praise the Lord Jesus for it.
From what we receive and are aware about, we can give, exchange. Thus the Light of the gift of God bursts forth. This awareness give sus the power to become ourselves in our lives and to offer up what we have received.
Thus we can have the Light come. And so we can sing : ’The darkness is no longer darkness before you, o Lord.’
Everything is in Light from the Gift that Jesus makes of himself. Through his coming into humanity, Jesus is the Light that gives shape and colours to the whole reality of the world. Our mission in the world is a precious one, we a re these men and women of faith and hope who dwell in God’s Love and who continually remain like this in communion with their sisters and brothers
In the same way your light must shine in people’s sight, so that, seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven."
Our prayer to Jesus is to live with Him to receiver from him Light and to obtain his Love.
We ned to be capable of serving and of loving in all things, and so we ask for the grace to be fully grateful for all the good we have received throughout all our life.
Each day we take the time to appreciate what makes us live, and to receive it as a gift that is given to us.
In turn we seek how to give back all we have been given. This is how our life remains alive, capable of giving, respecting others, speaking well of others.
Because we take time to receive, to give, we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world manifesting God by our lives.
Everything comes from God and everything goes back to God with thanksgiving!
The encounter of two people moved by the Holy Spirit is a sign of hope, as Jesus who became bread, who is Light of the world.
We ask for the grace to do what God wants, may we be in faith and hope full of love for our people..
