Wednesday 22nd week even numbered year “Leaving the synagogue, he went to Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in the grip of a high fever and they asked him to do something for her.”
With one word Jesus tells the fever to leave this woman and as soon as she is healed begins to serve others.
This healing has a symbolical meaning - it announces humanity being raised up and the resurrection of humanity marked by suffering and the fever of sin.
The word that describes the action of getting up is used to design Jesus’s Resurrection.
Jesus’ Living and Vivifying Word is Resurrection and Life, it wants to come down towards each one of us.
Jesus manifests how God’s Kingdom is here , healing the sick and chasing demons. The usurped power of Satan, prince of this world, is over. Mankind can come back to God’s tenderness and mercy.
If someone is sick, infirm, he gets up at Jesus’ Word and is in good health. Jesus, moved by the Holy Spirit, passes through humanity and little by little the human community takes act of the Kingdom of God which has come, a kingdom of Love, peace, gentleness and humility.
“At sunset, all those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them to him, and laying his hands on each he cured them. Devils too came out of many people, shouting’ You are the Son of God!’ But he warned them and would not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.”
At sun set, the heat has gone down and the sick can be transported. Jesus heals all those sick who are brought to him . People crying out, becoming impatient, weary of suffering or each day in prey of demons.
Jesus finds the time to love each person, look at each person, impose his hands on each person as though he were the only one alive.
God does a work of sanctification and we are happy to let him do what he wants, with infinite confidence.
Jesus brings his people together. He is in our midst. It is through Him that we work, it is his Holy Spirit that does a work of unity.
His Word gives life to us and God gives growth to the new community which is His Body. It is Jesus who does a work of unity in our midst with the Holy Spirit for the Kingdom of God to come. This is where we wish to build this new community that he has formed with his disciples and which is the Church.
“When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look for him, and when they had caught up with him, they wanted to prevent him leaving them. But he answered, ’I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other towns too because that was what I was sent to do.” And he continued his proclamation in the synagogue of Judaea.“The desert is the place of solitude, the place of what is absolute and of freedom. Great things begin in silence and in poverty. The crowd joins him and would like to retain him and this too is our own reflex, when we have encountered Jesus. Now, Christ sends us to our mission, to his own mission : ’I also have to announce the Good News of the Kingdom of God to other towns, for that is why I have been sent.”
Something has changed for mankind with Jesus, the poor have the first place.
Seized by the Holy Spirit following Jesus, they bring unity and love which operates a work of Unity amongst us. The Kingdom of God has come amongst us, we who take after Jesus to sow peace around us and also this gentleness and love that comes from Him.
