Wednesday 23rd Week, OT
"Then Jesus fixed his eyes on his disciples and said ’How blessed are you who are poor : the kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are hungry now : you shall have your fill.
Blessed are you who are weeping now : you shall laugh"
We contemplate Jesus ’seeing his disciples’ ; first of all we have to let ourselves be seen by Jesus. To rediscover this fundamental Love : He is our Creature, our Saviour.
Jesus wishes to strengthen the community of the poor, those in difficulty and threatened. He is attentive to anyone who lacks, wishing to bring him back to what is essential, to God’s promise, where each of us is called to happiness.
Our wealth is God’s love being accomplished in us, it opens up our hearts to the gifts of God, this is our only true Joy. The beatitudes are an invitation to holiness, a path towards truth, justice and especially a path of humility and gentleness.
Blessed are we, if we know how to cry with those who cry, for we laugh in God’s light when God’s smile will have triumphed over all our fears. We shall taste close to him the joy of free hearts, the joy of those who love and know themselves to be loved.
God truly dwells within me, he suffers his Passion within us and he invites us to join him so that we may know by experience how far His Love does go.
This is a grace to be asked for. We situate ourselves in this love, so as to look at reality differently : as God sees it, with tenderness and love.
"Blessed are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the son of man. Rejoice, when that day
comes, and dance for joy. See! Your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets."
We have to move towards a leaving behind of oneself so that God’s Love may take up everything into itself.
Jesus loves us, he wants to take us into his heart. We must abandon our selfishness so as to find ourselves again on a more essential level : the level of God’s Infinite Love that makes abstraction of everything which is to the profit of a more divine and greater vision.
When the vase breaks, tears flow, this is a very delicate place and really sensitive inside of ourselves. Jesus cries over Jerusalem, this is such a big mystery. Jesus was rejected, cursed, treated to be Satan! He took upon himself the hatred of the world, all our sins. He really took everything into his own life, into his flesh, into his Heart.
All he is , he has given to us. Jesus’ heart burst open when the spear pierced his heart so as to show us his infinite Love.
There is always a possibility for us to widen our heart, our nets, in order to love Jesus infinitely without return, in a thoroughly gratuitous manner. ’Candid as doves, prudent as serpents’, our desire is to love with the Love coming from God.
"But alas for you who are rich : you are having your consolation now!
Alas for you have plenty to eat now : you shall go hungry.;
Alas for you who are laughing now; you shall mourn and weep.
Alas for you when everyone speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets."
Alas for you who have plenty to eat now .Wealthy is the one who expects nothing else from God because he has closed his hands over what he has and that he has placed ’all consolation’ in material security.
To be rich means to longer have in oneself this space to desire This wound of our hope, our wounded hope, God Alone can heal it, by placing it in the Light, by showing us our lack of true love, he revives it at each moment.
The one who greedily takes in everything that life offers no longer hungers for God, unfortunately.
He is happy enough with what he gets in the immediate and lets himself be filled with things he possessed or wants to have.
So he opens up in himself like a bottomless well a hunger which gets at him at each moment!
Unhappy are we when we get used to easiness, without anything deep that we like. We are alone without horizon or friendship when trials visit us
We need to go into ourselves to find a hunger for an authentic life, one that is open and generous.
