Tuesday 32nd week, even numbered year
"Which one of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned home from the fields, ’Come and have your meal at once?’
The day over, the night is drawing in, the worker comes back from working in the fields with heavy legs. Will he take a breather before his night’s rest? No, he takes the time to change his apron and here he is preparing his master’s meal.
What does Jesus wish to say to each us : ’You ought to de the same thing“says Jesus, hem, will serve them.”
We are mere servants before our God and can only give what we have first received.
Now, everything we receive comes from God : life and the power to give, that is, to serve. God likes us to show how through our service we reveal how he is the Source of all gifts. Our service is a response to a never ending gift made to us, a power to also give without limits, in the same way the gift is made to us.
God’s graces of his Infinite Love, are revealed to the world when we truly live in the Love Jesus proposes to us. Our life reveals the greatness of the Bridegroom whom we serve his beauty and his goodness.
“Would he not be lore likely to say, ’Get my supper ready; fasten your belt and wait on me while I eat and drink.”
When we have done all we have been able to, we are aware just how little this still is because of the greatness of the Love we have received. This is how God has given Himself to us.
Jesus worked in our hearts through his Passion and Resurrection, getting us to come out of our selfishness and placing us again in the Light of his Love. He orientates us so that we may remain in the gratuitous Infinite Love of God.
’Just for today’ sang Saint Therese of the Child Jess and of the Holy Face. Whatever is in our power to revive the gift of God at each moment. Jesus asks
us to take a look at the future with the hope God will invent for us. He has given us a Spirit of strength and of love, in order to keep going, persevering, keeping only in our heart the Word of God.
It is God ’who passes from one person to another, serving them’, it is He the Master of this parable.
When Jesus washes his disciples’ feet it really is God kneeling before us. In his gesture, Jesus reveals Himself to be at the same time God serving mankind and mankind serving God, in the service of his sisters and brothers. Such is the realism of charity.
“Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you : when you have done all you have been told to do, say ’We are useless servants : we have done no more than our duty.”
The first Love of God for his little creature is Light. Jesus invites us to the wedding feast, pushing our service as far as the gift of our life in sacrifice. Become the Bread of Life, his life is given to us so that his Body has us keep on living.
In this way God’s Love is revealed to us, becoming a practical part of us, taking on abode through our gestures of love and of service. We can be one for another, the path of God’s Love if we are just mere servants.
Created in God’s likeness, irrigated by his endless Love, we are capable of communicating it. The bridegroom gives his life for his bride. This was the service Mary ha for her tiny little Jesus she had to serve and nourish with such great Love.
Mary will also be there on the road to Calvary, who Jesus is working so hard to save humanity.
Grace teaches us to live in such a way that God’s happiness prepares us to welcome his gifts so as to acquire the attitude of faith, hope and love. And so the God of tenderness and mercy is revealed to us, full of compassion, He who comes to our aid from the daily experience of loving him.
