Friday of 11th week, even numbered year
“Store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them and thieves cannot break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your hearts be too.”
Our heart’s intention can lack straightness out of malice, out of nastiness, out of a lack of wisdom. And so in this way we live as though we have come into the world to accumulate wealth and we can’t think of anything else.
We want to win the admiration of other people. We deceive ourselves, and we suffer, we load ourselves with preoccupations and deceptions and cannot find the happiness we are looking for.
Jesus offers us this : ’But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroy them nor where thieves can break in and steal."
Heaven is the attic of our good intentions that always make up a treasure. Jesus knows how to reach what is essential in our lives.
My treasure is the Infinite Love we receive from God and that has us move forward in life. We tell Jesus once more just how much his Love is a treasure for us! The love we receive from God beats in our hearts filled with Love. God will never finish loving us! This love, we can give it in return, infinitely. And so we are led in the dance of Love. It is this Love that makes us, we need to become what we are.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be filled with light. But I your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then the light inside you is darkened, what darkness that will be!”
Jesus tells us ’the lamp is the body, it is the eye.’ In talking about the eye, Jesus is referring to peoples’ intentions. When his intention is straight, lucid, directed towards God, all of our actions are brilliant and resplendent. On the other hand, when our intentions are not straight’ what darkness there will be!’ We may have heard of this French expression : ’To have a bad eye, a dark eye!’ This is an eye that is not set on God’s Infinite Love.
Jesus makes the link between our heart, our body, our eyes. Our body can become luminous is our heart is in light.
How do we keep this treasure?
When our little boat floats along in God’s infinite Love, our eyes are clear, all that we are is unified. On the other hand, in desolate times and in adversity, our love is purified like gold in the furnace. We must remain in Love! The way of Jesu is a life that is nothing else but love, a love that is light.
"But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor wood worm destroys them and thieves cannot break in and steal.
For whoever your treasure Is, there will your heart be too."
Let’s be sincere with ourselves, where do we put our efforts, what motivates us?
For sure, we are of Christ, and we want to work in an honest way, raise up our family in dignity, ensure we have a tranquil od age, also work to help other people.
But if what we seek is not in Christ Jesus, we are no longer in the Heart of God.
We are passing through this world and our life passes by we need to pluing our eye in Christ Jesus.
As is asked of us, we celebrate the paschal mystery, the place of the victory of love over all powers of darkness. Led by Jesus, moved by the Holy Spirit, we can pass through all these ordeals!
Those whose gaze remains fixed on the Heavenly Father take up again the way of the Beatitudes : ’Be careful when people say all sorts of good things about you, this is how they treated the false prophets. Blessed are you when you are insulted, when people speak badly about you for my sake."
So, let us be joyful! United to the Saviour, our joy is to be with Jesus. Where our treasure is, is our heart.
